Kitchen Measuring Guide ... Step 4.

You have measured the width, now lets look at the height.

We are going to take the "overall" height of your kitchen, and then some other measurements that will affect your new kitchen design.

Just as your walls are neither straight, plumb, or square, neither is your ceiling likely to be level!

This is easily checked by measuring the distance between the floor and the ceiling in a number of different places, as follows:

Now, does it makes a lot of sense to use the smallest of the measurements taken.

By doing so, and providing the height setting of your kitchen cabinets (including any cornice) is less then the smallest height noted ... your kitchen will fit!

Next we need to look at a variety of other height measuremnts you need to take, all of which can have an impact on your kitchen design, as follows:

1. Window's:

If your base cabinets have to run underneath the window you need to be aware of the window cill height (remembering that if any appliances are positioned underneath a window - you cannot reduce the height of these appliances).

You may require an upstand to compliment your new worktop - will the height of the window cill prevent you from doing this?

Does your window open inwards? - if so, is it going be be obstructed by any kitchen tap you intend placing in this area?

2. Central Heating Boiler's:

If you are intending to "box in" your boiler with matching kitchen cabinets you will need to check if the boiler's position on the wall coincides with the standard height placement of your cabinets ... it is unlikely to do so!
