Buying Kitchen Units
There are two main types of kitchen units as follows:
Standard Kitchen Units ...
The vast majority of people in the UK buy standard kitchen units.
These kitchen units can be supplied either "Flat Pack" for self assembly, or "Rigid" ready assembled.
As a rule of thumb Rigid Kitchen Units tend to be of better quality.
In-Frame Kitchen Units ...
People looking for a more traditional look tend to buy In-Frame Kitchen Units.
These are generally "Hand Made" and "Hand Painted" in-situ, although some kitchen unit suppliers make carcase versions.
In-Frame Kitchen Units will normally be far more expensive than standard kitchen units.
The quality of the kitchen units you buy will determine the life expectancy of your new kitchen.
Poor quality kitchen units may be cheap, but within a couple of years you will find the doors will begin to "drop" and the drawer runners and bases' will fail.
We consider the minimum requirements for good quality kitchen units are:
- At least 18mm unit thickness
- At least 8mm solid back panel
- Solid Drawer bases
- Adjustable Feet
- Soft Close / Clip on Hinges
- Self Closing Drawers with 30kg capacity
- Hi-line and Drawer-line availability
- 150, 300, 400, 450, 500, and 600mm unit widths
- 570, 720, and 900mm wall unit heights
- Choice of kitchen unit colour - to complement door colour
If you purchase good quality kitchen units you can expect them to last at least 15 years.
We hope you found these simple tips for buying kitchen units helpful.
