Kitchen Measuring Guide
Step 1. Go out and buy a professional Tape measure, or even better, a Laser Measuring Device ... like one of these [Tape Measure] [Laser Measure]
Step 2. Measure each walls' "total length" at three different heights, as shown below:

Step 3. Measure the ceiling height at three different positions, as shown below:

Step 4. Note down the smallest of the wall width measurements for each wall, and the lowest ceiling height measurement:


Step 5. Now measure the widths, heights, and positions of the obtacles (Windows, Doors, Boilers, Stop Cock, etc) and note them on your plan:

Step 6. Upon completing your design check to see if the total "run" of cabinet lengths are less than the smallest wall measurement figures. Then check the cabinet height settings are less than the lowest ceiling height figure. Then check nothing clashes with any of the marked obstacles.
Stick to these simple guidelines and it should all fit!
