Fitted Kitchen Regulations ...
There are a few regulations governing fitted kitchens in the UK.
Some
of these regulations place restrictions upon work you may try to carry out yourself, namely regulations covering Gas and Electrical
works.
1. Electrical Works.
As of Jan 2004 new electrical work carried out in your kitchen has to comply
with "Part P", must be certificated by a "Part P" qualified
installer, and then notified to the relevant authority.
Check out the "Part P" Regulations ... here
2. Gas Works.
For a number of years now work involving any aspect of installing gas
appliances, or work that affects the current gas installation, can only
be completed by a C.O.R.G.I. registered gas fitter. (This also applies
to changes in ventilation to a kitchen with any current gas appliance - ie when venting out a cooker hood).
Check
out the C.O.R.G.I. regulations ... here
3. Cooker Hoods.
As a rule of thumb the minimum distance between the underside of your cooker
hood, and the highest point of your hob is:
- Electric Hob = 650mm
- Gas Hob = 700mm
Always check the manufacturers recommended clearance complies with UK regulations ... particulary when placed over a gas hob.
4. Water Regulations.
There are currently no regulations in force - however a set of regulations is being considered - we'll post the outcome when (and if) it happens.
