Solid Wood Worktops ...
[ Solid Wood Worktop - Wenge Example]
Regarded "rightly" as a high maintenance work surface, a little care in their initial installation and preparation will provide a worktop to be proud of for years to come.
The most popular solid wood worktops are Oak, Beech (Standard and Steamed), Iroko, Walnut, Rubberwood, Teak, Maple, Wenge, and Bamboo.
Wooden worktops are not produced from a solid plank, but are constructed from small blocks (known as staves) that are finger jointed together to form standard lengths - the most popular sizes are:
- 620mm width / 2050mm length
- 620mm width / 3000mm length
- 900mm width / 2400mm length
In order to maintain long life and appearance it is vitally important wooden worktops are stored correctly and oiled to prevent water ingress (particularly cut edges around Belfast, or under mounted, sinks)
As they are normally installed with a "straight" edge profile the cutting and returning around corners is simplified as they are butt jointed (not requiring a Mitre Jig).
